# Use shared passwords

> Find a password your MSP has shared, reveal or copy it, and troubleshoot missing access.

**Audience:** Company users and MSP staff explicitly granted access to shared documentation passwords.

Your MSP must connect Hudu or IT Glue, enable password sharing, and give your role both documentation access and shared-password access. Access to Documents alone does not give access to Passwords.

## Find and use a shared password

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Passwords">
    Go to **Documentation > Passwords**. Check your selected company if you have access to more than one.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Find the correct entry">
    Use the table's name and company filters and review the entry's username, folder, and login URL. Make sure it is the account you intend to use.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Reveal or copy the password">
    Select **Reveal** and wait for the value to load. Use the eye control to hide or show it and the copy control to copy the password. The username has its own copy control.

    A revealed value automatically clears after the on-screen timeout. Reveal it again when needed. Hiding the value on screen does not erase a copy already placed on your clipboard.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the service">
    Use the login URL when available, then sign in to the service with the appropriate account details. Copying or revealing a password does not sign you in automatically.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Some shared asset records also include a password field. A **Reveal** control on that field follows the same access checks and can show the linked username and login URL.

## FAQs

<AccordionGroup>

  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I change a shared password here?">
    The shared-password view is for reading and copying credentials. Ask your MSP to update the credential in the appropriate service and documentation provider.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why did the password disappear?">
    Revealed values clear automatically after a short timeout. Use **Reveal** again if you still need it.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does hiding a password clear my clipboard?">
    No. The eye control changes what appears on screen. Anything copied to your clipboard is separate.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I use Passwords to reset my portal password?">
    No. These are credentials shared through your MSP's documentation system. They are separate from your own portal sign-in method.
