# Read the project overview

> Understand project summaries, progress measures, dates, and contacts, then find the detail you need.

Open **Projects**, select the project, and choose **Overview**. Company users see information available to their account; the MSP manages the project and access permissions.

## Read the summary

<Steps>
  <Step title="Check the project and Company">
    Check the project name and Company before interpreting its status, health, dates, or contacts. Status and health are separate indicators; neither replaces the underlying work and updates.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the narrative">
    **Project Summary** contains the project's summary when available and enabled. **Project Outcome** contains the description maintained by the MSP. Use **Show more** to expand long text and **Show less** to collapse it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the latest Weekly Summary">
    Review **Completed**, **Coming Up**, **Risks & Concerns**, and **Decisions Needed** when present. The summary is selected by its **Week of** date, not its last edit time. Open [Updates](/user-guides/projects/read-project-updates) for other weeks.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Follow the relevant detail">
    The top information bar can show **Phase**, **Goal**, and the next shared pending or in-progress milestone. **What You're Getting** previews up to five deliverables; open [Deliverables](/user-guides/projects/read-project-deliverables) for the full available list and files. Respond to assigned requests in [Decisions or Action Items](/user-guides/projects/respond-to-project-actions).
  </Step>
</Steps>

The next milestone can be overdue; “Next” does not guarantee a future date. A Phase label describes the current phase and is separate from the detailed plan in Phases. Summary cards do not approve work or change its status.

This example was captured in the MSP Demo project. Company users see only information available to their account.

## Understand the different measures

| Measure                                | Meaning                                                                                                                                                        |
| -------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Tickets: Total, Open, Closed** | Counts of tickets supplied to this view. Its bar compares Closed with Total; this section appears when more than one ticket is available. |
| **Completion** | The project's recorded completion percentage, which can come from its connected project system. It is separate from ticket, milestone, and deliverable counts. |
| **Milestones** | Complete divided by shared milestones. Internal MSP milestones are excluded from this Overview measure. |
| **Hours: Logged, Billable, Estimated** | Recorded project hours and estimate when available. The bar compares Logged with Estimated; using the estimate does not mean the project is complete. |
| **Budget and Actual** | Available monetary values when enabled and shared. They are not an invoice or a payment confirmation. |

A missing measure can mean it is disabled, not shared, unavailable, or zero. Completion at zero is not shown as a separate bar. Ticket visibility and display settings can affect the available counts. Ask your MSP when figures disagree; do not assume all progress bars should match.

Some small projects show one ticket directly above the summary, including its status, owner, description, hours, and optional **Time Entries**. Read those as ticket information. Available time-entry views and the separate time summary can differ from imported project totals.

## Review dates and contacts

**Details** may show **Type**, **Budget Type**, **PO Number**, **Started**, **Target Finish** or **Overdue**, **Deadline**, and **Last Sync**. Deadline appears separately when it differs from Target Finish. These values depend on available project data and display settings. Last Sync describes a synchronization timestamp, not proof that every part of the workspace changed at that moment.

Under **Contacts**, review **Project Lead**, **Client Sponsor**, and **Additional Contact** entries. Select an email or phone link to open your device's email or calling application. The copy control beside a lead or sponsor copies the email address; it does not send a message.

Custom fields may appear separately with the values your role can read. **Not set** means no displayed value, not that a requirement has been satisfied. Ask the MSP about missing fields, corrections, or access. MSP staff can [edit the project narrative](/user-guides/projects/edit-project-details) and [maintain contacts](/user-guides/projects/manage-project-contacts).

## FAQs

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Why are there no weekly updates on Overview?">
    There may be no update available to you. Ask whether your MSP has written and shared one; an empty summary does not mean no project work has happened.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why is a recently edited update not the Weekly Summary?">
    Overview selects the update with the latest Week of date. Open Updates to read other reporting weeks.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does 100% of estimated hours mean the project is finished?">
    No. That measures hours used against the estimate. Check project status, completion, deliverables, and outstanding requests separately.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why can my MSP see more milestones than the Overview total?">
    Overview counts shared milestones. The MSP's Timeline can include internal milestones as well.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Where are the rest of the deliverables?">
    What You're Getting previews at most five. Open Deliverables for the full list available to your account and any shared documents.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I change the project contacts or manage users?">
    Your MSP manages project contacts and user permissions. Being listed as a contact or sponsor does not itself grant portal access or editing rights.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does clicking a contact email send a portal message?">
    It opens your email application. The copy button only copies the address. Neither automatically submits a ticket; for support, [start with the Home AI Assistant](/user-guides/ticketing/open-a-ticket).
