# Read project updates

> Find shared weekly progress, next steps, risks, and decisions in a project workspace.

Open **Projects**, select a project, and choose **Updates** to read the progress your MSP has shared. Company users read shared updates; MSP staff write and manage them.

## Before you start

You need access to the project. Your MSP controls project visibility and permissions. Internal updates are excluded from Company views, so your list and tab count can differ from an MSP staff member's.

## Read an update

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Updates">
    Find **Weekly Updates** in the project workspace. Updates are ordered by **Week Of**, with the newest reporting week first. **Latest** identifies the first update in that list.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Expand a row">
    Select a row or its expand arrow to read the full summary. A shortened summary in a wide-screen row is only a preview.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review the sections">
    Read **Completed This Week**, **Coming Up Next**, **Risks & Concerns**, and **Decisions Needed**. Sections with no entries may be omitted from the reader view. The colored numbers beside a wide-screen row count entries in these sections, not tickets or hours.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Act on requests separately">
    A decision bullet is a progress note, not a response button. Open **Decisions** to inspect any related request. Follow [Respond to project decisions and action items](/user-guides/projects/respond-to-project-actions) when a pending item is assigned to you.
  </Step>
</Steps>

**Week Of** is the reporting period. The relative posted time shown on larger screens is the update's creation time; it is not a read receipt or reliable last-edit time. Multiple updates can belong to the same week. Check their contents instead of assuming there is one final report per week.

On smaller screens, row summaries, counts, source references, and posted time may be hidden. Expand the row for the narrative and lists, or use a wider display for row metadata.

## If something is missing

* **No updates yet:** the MSP may not have added any updates visible to your account. This does not mean that no project work has happened.
* **The expected week is not first:** expand the relevant reporting week. Editing an older update does not make it the newest week.
* **A decision has no response button:** a bullet alone does not assign someone. Ask the MSP to check the related request and its assignees.
* **You need a correction:** contact your MSP; Company admins do not manage update editing or user permissions. To open support, [start with the Home AI Assistant](/user-guides/ticketing/open-a-ticket).

For milestone dates and status, use [Read the project timeline](/user-guides/projects/read-project-timeline). MSP authors can follow [Write and share project updates](/user-guides/projects/write-project-updates).

## FAQs

    No. The tab badge counts available updates. The colored row counts represent entries in the update's four lists.
