# Approve a request

> Review requests waiting for your approval, follow your own requests, and see what happened after a decision.

Some requests need sign-off from people at your company before they become tickets. They wait on the **Approvals** page until every step of their approval chain approves.

**Audience:** Company users. Your IT provider decides which requests need approval and who approves them.

## Approve or reject a request

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Approvals">
    Open **Approvals** in the sidebar. **Waiting for me** lists the requests you can decide now. You also get an email and a notification when a request needs you.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the request">
    Select a request to see its details, who asked for it, each approval step and its history.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Decide">
    Select **Approve** or **Reject** and add an optional note. The requester and the other approvers can read it. When your step has enough approvals, the next step's approvers are asked. One rejection ends the request.
  </Step>
</Steps>

You only see requests from your own company that you asked for or are asked to approve.

## Follow your own requests

When you submit a request that needs approval, MSPortal opens it on the **Approvals** page instead of creating a ticket. Find it later under **My requests**. You are told when it is approved, not approved, or expires.

Select **Withdraw request** while it is still waiting if you no longer need it.

## After approval

When the last step approves, the ticket is created and its number appears on the request. If you asked for the request or approved it, the ticket's details show an **Approval** section with who approved it.

Your IT provider can also approve or reject a request for the approvers, for example when an approver is away. Those decisions are marked as made by your IT provider and include their reason.
