Branch preview: Settings > Planner opens on Settings. Planner view customization is off by default and is not generally available. The default-page captures below use real MSPortal Demo data; the Views captures are fixture-backed previews with the migration not applied. Replace these with verified production captures after rollout.

Open Planner settings

You need Manage Planner, and Planner must be turned on for your portal. Open Settings > Operations > Planner (/settings/planner). The page title is Planner, and Settings is the default tab. For now, the Settings card says More planner settings will appear here. There are no controls to save on this tab. With view customization off, Views, Add view and the board’s Manage views link are hidden. A link ending in ?tab=views still opens Settings while customization is off.

Views preview prerequisites

The remaining instructions apply only when Planner view customization is enabled for your portal. The timeline otherwise keeps the original Comfortable, Compact and Dense options. Custom themes, sticky notes and client view assignments do not apply while customization is off; saved views and assignments are kept. When available, open Settings > Planner > Views. Board view > Manage views also opens this tab directly (/settings/planner?tab=views); opening Planner from the settings menu still starts on Settings. On a phone, open the page’s Actions menu to find Add view while on Views. A view names a card style, a density, a board theme, the fields a card shows and the figures each column header shows. MSP views appear in the board’s Board view menu for your team; client views are what your clients see.
  • Built-in views are Detailed, Compact, Dense, Sticky notes, Whiteboard, Collection and Client view. You can rename them, change them, or add your own.
  • Each change saves as soon as you confirm it; there is no separate page-level Save button.
  • Collectible cards have their own separate availability setting, which is also off by default. Enabling Views alone does not enable collectible cards.

Name the board columns

The Settings tab names the board’s side columns in your own terms, such as Backlog for Unscheduled or Delivered for Completed.
1

Open the Settings tab

Go to Settings > Planner. The Settings tab opens first.
2

Enter the names

Under Board columns, type a name in Unscheduled column, Completed column, or both. Leave a field blank to keep the standard name, which appears as its placeholder.
3

Save

Click Save. The board’s side bars, panels and the Show Completed column option use the new names for your team and your clients. Use standard names puts both back.
You need Manage Planner to change the names. PDF exports and planner analytics keep the standard names.

Add or edit a view

1

Open the editor

On Views, click Add view (in Actions on a phone), or click a view’s name. The row menu also offers Edit and Duplicate.
2

Name the view and choose its audience

MSP views are offered to your team on the board. Clients views are for client users. The last view of each audience cannot change audience.
3

Pick a card style and density

Cards is the classic card. Sticky notes draws tinted notes. Collectible cards draws trading cards with a rarity from business value; this style is available once collectible cards are turned on for your portal.
4

Pick a board theme

Under Board, choose Standard (the portal’s own surfaces), Whiteboard (a dotted board with marker titles, notes held by magnets), Corkboard (cork with pushpins) or Blueprint (a drafting grid with white lines). The theme changes the board behind the cards, not the cards’ content.
5

Choose a note colour (sticky notes)

For the sticky-note style, Note colour by decides a note’s tint: Item type gives every type its own colour, Business value colours High pink, Medium yellow and Low green, and Status colours by status.
6

Choose what cards show

Turn Linked items, Status and value badges, Cost, Hours, Assignee and Description on or off. The preview on the right draws a sample column and item in this view and updates as you change settings.
7

Choose the column header figures

Under Show in column headers, keep or hide Item count, Hours and Budget for each timeline column. Turn off hours and budget on a client view to keep pricing off the board your clients see.
8

Assign clients (client views)

Under Clients, choose the companies that see this view. Every other client sees the client default.
9

Save

Click Create view or Save.

Set the defaults

Use a row’s menu to Set as MSP default (what your team sees until they pick another view) or Set as client default (what clients see unless their company is assigned a view). The defaults show as pills on the row.

Delete a view

Choose Delete from a row’s menu. A default view, or the last view for its audience, cannot be deleted. Clients assigned to a deleted view see the client default. A built-in view you delete stays deleted; built-in views MSPortal adds later appear in your list on their own.
