Use Section order to choose which category group comes first in a budget’s Overview and in newly exported PDF and Excel documents. This guide is for MSP staff and for company users whose MSP has given them budget edit access.

Before you start

  • You need budget edit access (the write_budgets or manage_budgets permission).
  • The budget must be Draft or Pending Approval.
  • The budget must have at least two category sections. A section groups lines by category. Lines with no category sit under Uncategorized.

Choose and save the order

Open the budget

Click Budgets, click … on the budget’s row, then click View.

Open Section order

Click the … button in the page header, then click Section order.

Move the categories

Click the up or down arrow on a row to move it, or drag the handle on the left. The first row cannot move up and the last row cannot move down. Each row shows the category, its item count and its amount.

Save the order

Click Save order. The dialog closes when the order is saved.

Save order stores the arrangement right away. You do not need to save again in the budget editor.

Check Overview

The category groups on Overview now follow your order.
Click Cancel to close the dialog without saving. To change a saved order later, open Section order again, move the rows and click Save order.

Where the order applies

Section order moves whole groups. It does not move lines inside a group, change a line’s category, or change any price, quantity, recurrence or status. The amount on each row is quantity times unit price for every line in that category, including rejected lines. It is not a yearly projection. A category added after you saved the order appears after the ordered ones. Open Section order again to place it. A category with no lines is not listed.
