Compliance brings together the checks your MSP assigns to companies, locations, and devices. A check describes a requirement. Each assigned check records the result for one target in one run. Company users read the checks and supporting information shared with their company. MSP staff set up checks, groups, templates, and scoring, start runs, and record findings, evidence, and follow-up work.

Before you start

  • You need Compliance read access to look. You need write or manage access to run checks, change a check, or add notes.
  • Checks, groups, and templates come from your MSP’s library. Nothing is included automatically. See Compliance settings and Playbooks.
  • An empty dashboard does not mean you are compliant. It usually means no run has been started for your scope.

Open Compliance

1

Open the dashboard

Click Compliance in the sidebar. The page is titled Compliance Dashboard.
2

Pick a view

Use the tabs in the page header. Tree groups checks by company, run, and group. List shows one row per check. Risks appears when your MSP has turned on risk tracking.
3

Open another area

Click Compliance Menu and choose Dashboard, Runs, or History.
4

Ask Compliance AI

If AI is on for your tenant, click Open assistant at the right edge of the page. See Compliance AI.

Run compliance checks

MSP staff with write access start a run here. A run creates an assigned check for each target you choose.
1

Open the Run dialog

On the dashboard, click Run Checks in the page header. The Run Compliance Checks dialog opens.
2

Name the run

Type a Name, or click the clock icon to use today’s date. Add optional Notes.
3

Set a due date

Pick a Due date, or click 1 week, 2 weeks, 30 days, 60 days, or 1 year. Tick Hide from company users to keep the run internal.
4

Choose what to assess

In the left panel, pick the Companies, Locations, Devices, or Device Groups to assess. Use Select all, or search each list. A device group applies the checks to every device of that type.
5

Choose the checks

In the right panel, pick Templates, Groups, or Individual checks. A template includes its groups and checks, and a group includes its checks. The totals show how many checks you picked.
6

Start the run

Click Run compliance checks. MSPortal shows Compliance run queued successfully. Processing N companies in background. The new run appears in the tree when it finishes.
Only checks with an Approved status are created. Pending or rejected checks are skipped, even when they are in a selected template or group. The dialog warns you when some checks in a group are not approved. MSPortal needs a name, at least one target, and at least one template, group, or check. Otherwise it shows a message such as Please enter a name for the compliance run.

Work on a check

1

Open the check

Click a check title in Tree or List. See Read compliance guidance, evidence, and history for a tour of the window.
2

Set status, priority, and due date

In the middle column, choose Status from the check’s status list, Priority (High, Medium, or Low), and a Due Date.
3

Write the notes

Type in Public Notes (Client Visible) for text company users can read. Type in Private Notes (Internal Only) for your team. Click Add Template to insert saved note text. Type @ to mention a teammate. They get a notification that opens the check.
4

Attach evidence

On a wide screen, open Uploads in the right column and drop in files. On a phone, use the Uploads tab.
5

Save

Changes autosave, and the header shows Saving, Saved, or Error. Click Save Changes to save and close. If you close with unsaved changes, MSPortal asks You have unsaved changes. Are you sure you want to close?
Choosing a status can add the note template linked to that status to your public notes.

Draft public notes with AI

1

Write private notes

Type your raw observations in Private Notes (Internal Only).
2

Click AI Draft

Click AI Draft in the Public Notes header. The button is off until private notes exist, and it only appears when AI is on.
3

Review the draft

AI adds a client-ready draft with Summary, Business Impact, and Remediation sections to the end of your public notes and saves it. MSPortal shows AI draft saved successfully. Edit the text, and remove anything you do not want company users to read.

Flag a check, add it to Planner, or create a ticket

  • Flag for Review marks the check for your team. Click Flagged again to remove the flag.
  • Add to Planner opens a Planner item for the check. It needs Compliance write access and Planner write access. When the check already has linked work, an Open in Planner link also appears.
  • Create Ticket opens Create Support Ticket, where you type Why are you creating this ticket? and click Create Ticket. It needs a PSA integration mapped to the company and Compliance write access. Once a ticket exists the button reads View Ticket. Your PSA’s default board and status must be set in Settings > Tickets.
  • Add to risk register appears on a failed, completed check when risk tracking is on. See Risk Management.

Read statuses and scores

Statuses come from the status list on each check. Your MSP names them and decides which count as passed. Tree rows count Past due, Passed, Failed, and In progress. The Compliance Score is a weighted percentage with a letter grade. Each check has a Score Weight, shown in its guidance with the formula scope × (1 + crit × mult) × priority. See Find compliance checks and understand results and Compliance scoring. A high score is not a certification. It summarizes the checks you have assessed.
