This guide walks you through connecting your Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud instance to MSPortal.ai using our streamlined 2-step setup wizard.
The Acronis integration is currently in Beta. Core functionality is complete and available for all users. You will see a “Beta” badge on the Acronis card in the Integrations page. If you encounter any issues, contact support@msportal.ai.

Overview

Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud provides unified backup, disaster recovery, and cyber protection for MSPs. By integrating Acronis with MSPortal.ai, you can:
  • Sync backup status and protection data across all your managed clients
  • Monitor backup alerts and notifications in a centralized dashboard
  • Map Acronis tenants to MSPortal companies for organized data tracking
  • Include backup metrics in client reports

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:
  • Active Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud account with administrative access
  • MSPortal.ai account with integration management permissions
  • Companies already set up in MSPortal (from your PSA integration or manually created)
The Acronis integration maps tenants to existing companies in MSPortal. Import your companies from your PSA integration first, or create them manually before setting up Acronis.

Part 1: Generate API Credentials in Acronis

Before connecting to MSPortal.ai, you need to create an API client in Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud.
1

Log into Acronis Management Console

Access your Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud management console using your administrator credentials.
2

Navigate to API Clients

Go to Settings > API Clients (this may also appear under Manage your account > API clients depending on your console version).
3

Create a New API Client

Click Create API Client to begin generating your credentials.Enter a descriptive name for the client:
FieldRecommended Value
NameMSPortal Integration
4

Copy Client ID and Client Secret

After creating the API client, the console will display your Client ID and Client Secret.
Copy the Client Secret immediately! It is only displayed once. If you close the dialog without copying it, you will need to create a new API client. Store both values securely for use in MSPortal.ai.
5

Note Your Datacenter URL

Identify your Acronis datacenter URL. This is visible in the address bar of your Acronis portal and varies by region. Common examples include:
RegionExample Datacenter URL
UShttps://us5-cloud.acronis.com
EUhttps://eu2-cloud.acronis.com
AUhttps://au-cloud.acronis.com
Your datacenter URL is the base URL you see when logged into the Acronis management console, without any trailing path segments. For example, if your browser shows https://us5-cloud.acronis.com/mc/dashboard, the datacenter URL is https://us5-cloud.acronis.com.

Required Information

Before proceeding to MSPortal, ensure you have the following:
InformationDescription
DatacenterYour Acronis datacenter region (MSPortal provides a dropdown of known datacenters, with a custom URL option)
Client IDThe client identifier generated when creating the API client
Client SecretThe secret generated when creating the API client

Part 2: MSPortal Setup Wizard

MSPortal.ai provides a guided 2-step wizard to connect and configure your Acronis integration.

Starting the Wizard

1

Navigate to Integrations

In MSPortal.ai, go to Settings > Integrations.
2

Start Setup

Find the Acronis Cyber Protect integration card and click Configure to launch the setup wizard.

Step 1: Connect

Enter your Acronis API credentials to establish the connection.
1

Enter API Credentials

Fill in the following fields:
FieldDescription
DatacenterSelect your Acronis datacenter from the dropdown. If your datacenter is not listed, choose Custom URL and enter the base URL manually.
Client IDThe client identifier from your Acronis API client
Client SecretThe secret from your Acronis API client
Your credentials are stored securely using encrypted vault storage. They are never exposed in logs or API responses.
2

Test Connection

Click Test Connection to verify your credentials. MSPortal will use your Client ID and Client Secret to authenticate with the Acronis API and retrieve your root tenant information. You will see a green “Connection successful” message when the test passes. If the connection fails:
  • Verify you selected the correct datacenter from the dropdown (or entered the correct custom URL)
  • Check that the Client ID and Client Secret are copied exactly, without extra spaces
  • Ensure the API client has not been revoked or deleted in Acronis
  • Confirm your Acronis account has administrative access
3

Create Integration

Once the connection test passes, click Create Integration to save your credentials and proceed to tenant mapping.

Step 2: Map Tenants

Map Acronis tenants (your customers/clients) to MSPortal companies. This determines which backup data syncs to which company.
1

Sync Tenants

If no tenants appear, click Sync to fetch tenants from your Acronis account. The initial sync may take a few minutes depending on the number of tenants in your environment.
The sync runs in the background. If tenants do not appear immediately, wait a few minutes and check again.
2

Use Quick Match

Click Quick Match to automatically match Acronis tenants to MSPortal companies based on name similarity. This saves significant time when you have many tenants with matching names.
Quick Match uses intelligent name matching to find likely matches. Review the results and make manual adjustments for any incorrect or missing matches.
3

Manual Mapping

For tenants that were not automatically matched or need adjustment:
  1. Find the tenant in the list
  2. Click the Select company dropdown in the “Mapped To” column
  3. Search for and select the correct MSPortal company
To remove a mapping, click the X button next to the company badge.
4

Filter Tenants

Use the filter dropdown to view:
  • All Tenants - Show all synced tenants
  • Mapped Only - Show only tenants linked to companies
  • Unmapped Only - Show tenants that still need mapping
5

Complete Setup

Once you have mapped your tenants, click Complete Setup to finish the wizard.
Only data from mapped tenants will sync to MSPortal. You can return to add more mappings at any time.

Troubleshooting

Causes:
  • Incorrect Datacenter selection, Client ID, or Client Secret
  • API client has been revoked or deleted in Acronis
  • Insufficient account permissions
Solutions:
  1. Verify you selected the correct datacenter from the dropdown, or entered the correct custom URL
  2. Confirm the Client ID and Client Secret are copied exactly, without extra spaces or missing characters
  3. Log into Acronis and verify the API client still exists under Settings > API Clients
  4. Ensure your Acronis account has administrative privileges
  5. If credentials are lost, create a new API client in Acronis and update the integration
Causes:
  • Initial sync still in progress
  • API client lacks sufficient permissions
Solutions:
  1. Click Sync and wait a few minutes for the background sync to complete
  2. Verify that your Acronis account has access to view tenant information
  3. Confirm that your Acronis environment has sub-tenants configured (if you only have a root tenant, there may be nothing to map)
Causes:
  • Tenants are not mapped to MSPortal companies
  • Sync has not completed yet
  • Credentials have expired or been revoked
Solutions:
  1. Ensure at least one tenant is mapped to a company — only data from mapped tenants will sync
  2. Wait for the sync to complete, then check again
  3. Return to the integration settings and test the connection to verify credentials are still valid
Causes:
  • The affected tenant is not mapped to a company
  • Sync for that data type has not run yet
Solutions:
  1. Verify the tenant is mapped in the integration wizard
  2. Trigger a manual sync for the specific data type (Sync Resources or Sync Alerts) from the integration management page
Causes:
  • Selected the wrong datacenter from the dropdown, or entered an incorrect custom URL
Solutions:
  1. Log into your Acronis management console and check the URL in your browser address bar
  2. Select the matching datacenter from the dropdown, or use Custom URL and enter the base domain only (e.g., https://us5-cloud.acronis.com), not a full page path
  3. Test the connection again after updating

Best Practices

Map Tenants First

Always map your Acronis tenants to companies before expecting data to appear. Only mapped tenant data syncs to MSPortal.

Use Quick Match

Start with Quick Match for tenant mapping, then manually adjust any incorrect matches. It saves significant time with large tenant lists.

Secure Your Credentials

Store your Client ID and Client Secret securely. If you suspect they have been compromised, delete the API client in Acronis and create a new one.

Monitor Alerts Regularly

Check backup alerts in MSPortal regularly to stay on top of failed backups and protection issues across your client base.

Security and Privacy

  • Credential Storage: Your Client ID and Client Secret are encrypted using vault storage and never exposed in logs or responses
  • Data Isolation: All synced data is tenant-isolated and only visible to your organization
  • Read-Only Access: MSPortal only reads data from Acronis; it does not modify your Acronis configuration or protection plans
  • Token Management: Authentication tokens are automatically refreshed, so you do not need to manage token expiration manually
