The Datto RMM integration maps sites to existing companies in MSPortal. Import your companies from your PSA integration first, or create them manually before setting up Datto RMM.
Before connecting to MSPortal, you need to enable API access and generate API keys for a Datto RMM user.

Enable API Access
Log into your Datto RMM portal and go to Setup > Global Settings > Access Control. Turn on Enable API Access and save.

Open the API User
Go to Setup > Users and open the user MSPortal will connect as. We recommend a dedicated user for MSPortal.

Generate API Keys
In the user’s API Keys section, click Generate API Keys, then Save the user. The keys do not work until the user is saved.
Copy the API URL, API Key and API Secret Key immediately after generating them. The Secret Key cannot be retrieved once you leave the page. Regenerating keys invalidates the previous pair.

Note Your Platform
Identify which Datto RMM platform your account uses. The platform name is the first part of the API URL you copied:
Branch preview: this setup flow includes a dedicated Sync step between Connect and Map. It is not yet available in every tenant.

Open the Sync step
After connecting, open Sync. The Choose what to sync card lists the data categories this provider supports: Companies (Datto sites), Devices, and Software.

Turn categories on or off
Use the switch beside each category. Existing connections keep their current behavior until you change a choice.
Turning a category off stops future synchronization for that category. Other disabled categories keep their existing data.
Turning Software off removes this integration’s installed software data. Turning it back on starts a new inventory sync.
Devices and software still use your saved site mappings to decide which records appear.

Save your choices
Click Next to save your choices and continue to mapping.
Map your Datto RMM sites to MSPortal companies. Only devices from mapped sites will be available for import.

Wait for Initial Sync
After creating the integration, MSPortal begins syncing your sites from Datto RMM. This may take a few minutes depending on the number of sites.
If you see “No Sites Found”, wait a few minutes and click Check for Sites. The initial sync may take a few minutes to complete.

Review Site List
The mapping table displays all sites from Datto RMM with:
Name: The name of the site in Datto RMM
Devices: Number of devices at that site
Mapped: The MSPortal company the site is linked to
Status: Pending for a link that is not saved yet, Saved for a saved link
The Total Items, Mapped and Unmapped tiles above the table show your progress. Click a tile to filter the list to those sites.

Use Quick Match (Recommended)
Click Quick Match to find companies with similar names. A Quick Match Results dialog lists each suggested match with its confidence score.
Matches at 70% confidence or higher are selected by default. Move the slider to select more or fewer matches.
Check or uncheck individual matches, then click Apply Matches.
Applied matches appear as Pending in the table. They are not saved yet.

Manually Map Remaining Sites
For sites that weren’t matched:
Find the site in the list
Click the company dropdown in the Mapped column
Search for and select the correct MSPortal company
The row shows Pending until you save it
To link several sites to the same company, check their rows, choose the company in the selection bar above the table, and click Assign.
If a company does not exist yet, click the + button in the row (or Create new company above the table) to create it. Check for an existing company first to avoid duplicates.

Save Your Mappings
Click Import Selected to save the pending links. The button shows how many changes are waiting. Clicking Next also saves pending links before moving on.

Unmap Sites (Optional)
To remove a saved mapping, click the X button next to the mapped company name. Removing a saved link takes effect immediately. Removing a pending link only discards the draft.
You must map at least one site before proceeding to device import. Devices from unmapped sites will not appear in the import staging area.
After mapping sites, import devices from Datto RMM into your MSPortal asset inventory.

Open Device Import
Click Open Device Import to access the full device import interface. This opens a dedicated page for managing device imports.

Complete Setup
Click Complete Setup to finish the wizard. You can always return to the device import page later. Completing setup does not mean every background sync or import has finished.
Before importing devices, map Datto device types to your MSPortal device types.

Review Discovered Types
The Device Type Mappings table shows all device types found in your Datto RMM:

Use Quick Match or Quick Create
Quick Match: Automatically maps Datto types to existing MSPortal device types with similar names
Quick Create: Creates new MSPortal device types for any Datto types that don’t have a match

Map Device Types
For each Datto device type:
Click the “Maps To” dropdown
Select the corresponding MSPortal device type
The mapping is saved automatically

Enable Auto-Sync (Optional)
Turn on Auto-Sync for device types you want automatically imported. New devices of these types will be imported without manual intervention after each device sync. Click Enable All Auto-Sync to turn it on for every mapped type.
Auto-sync requires a device type mapping. You must select a “Maps To” value before enabling auto-sync.

Ignore a Category (Optional)
Check the Ignore checkbox for device types you never want to import (e.g., printers, UPS devices, or sensors). Ignored categories:
Are visually dimmed in the mappings table
Have their mapping, auto-sync, and import controls disabled
All unimported devices of that type are hidden from the staged devices list and pending import counts
New devices synced from Datto RMM of an ignored type are automatically ignored
Uncheck the Ignore checkbox at any time to restore the category and its devices.

Import by Type
Click Import All on a row to import all unimported devices of that type at once. Click Import All Mapped to import every mapped type in one step.
After setup, manage your integration from Settings > Integrations:
Configure: Re-open the setup wizard to modify settings or re-map sites
Import Devices: Access the device import page directly
Resync: Trigger a fresh sync of sites, devices, and software
Delete: Available inside the Configure wizard. It opens a Delete Datto RMM Integration? confirmation and permanently removes the integration and its settings. It does not revoke the API keys in Datto RMM.
API access not enabled, or the user was not saved after generating keys
Solutions:
Verify your API Key and Secret Key are copied exactly (no extra spaces)
Confirm you selected the platform that matches your API URL
Generate new API keys for the user under Setup > Users if needed, and save the user
Ensure Enable API Access is on under Setup > Global Settings > Access Control
No sites appear in mapping step
Causes:
Initial sync still in progress
API user lacks access to the sites
Solutions:
Wait a few minutes for the initial sync to complete
Click Check for Sites, or Resync on the Integrations page
Verify the API user can see the sites in Datto RMM
A mapping disappeared
Cause: The link was still Pending when you left the page. Pending links are drafts until you save them.Solution: Re-select the company and click Import Selected (or Next). Check that the row shows Saved.
No devices in staging area
Causes:
No sites have been mapped to companies
Device sync still in progress
Sites don’t have any devices
Solutions:
Map at least one site to a company in the Map step and save it
Wait for the device sync to complete (can take 1-2 hours initially)
Click Sync Now to trigger a fresh sync
Import fails for some devices
Causes:
Device type not mapped
Company mapping was removed
Solutions:
Ensure all device types have a “Maps To” value configured
Verify the site is still mapped to a company
Check for error messages in the import results
Auto-sync not importing new devices
Causes:
Auto-sync not enabled for the device type
Device type not mapped
Site not mapped to a company
Solutions:
Enable Auto-Sync for the device type
Ensure the device type has a “Maps To” mapping configured
Always map your Datto sites to companies before trying to import devices. Unmapped site devices won’t appear in staging.
Use Quick Match
Start with Quick Match for site mapping, then manually adjust any incorrect matches. It saves significant time.
Enable Auto-Sync
For device types you always want imported (like workstations), enable Auto-Sync to reduce manual work.
Ignore Unwanted Types
Use the Ignore checkbox to permanently hide device types you never manage (printers, sensors, etc.). This keeps your pending import counts clean and accurate.
