Fortinet is in Beta. It is available to every tenant and shows a Beta badge in Settings › Integrations › Directory. If something does not match your FortiGate Cloud account, contact support@msportal.ai.
Fortinet brings your clients’ FortiGate firewalls into MSPortal from FortiGate Cloud: model, serial number, FortiOS firmware compared with the latest release in its branch, whether each FortiGate is connected to FortiGate Cloud management, and FortiCare and FortiGuard renewal dates from FortiCloud Asset Management. This setup is for MSP staff with integration management access. MSPortal only reads from FortiCloud. It never changes a FortiGate, its configuration or its policies.

What the integration covers

  • Covered: FortiGates managed in FortiGate Cloud, added to Devices for the companies you match, with firmware status, management connection and renewal dates.
  • Not covered: firewall policies, traffic logs, VPNs, security events and threat activity. FortiGates managed only through FortiManager, or not registered in FortiGate Cloud, do not sync.

Before you connect

Create an IAM API user in FortiCloud. See Fortinet’s API access guide.
  1. In the FortiCloud IAM portal, add an API user and download its credentials file. The file holds the API ID and password. Downloading the file again resets the password.
  2. Give the API user the FortiGate Cloud portal with Admin access type. MSPortal only reads the device list.
  3. To see FortiCare and FortiGuard renewal dates, also add the Asset Management portal. Read-only access is enough. Without it, FortiGates still sync, but renewal dates do not.
One API user covers every FortiGate in your FortiGate Cloud account, including sub-accounts.

Connect

  1. Open Settings › Integrations, choose Directory, find Fortinet, and choose Connect.
  2. Choose the FortiGate Cloud region: Global, United States, Europe or Japan. Use Global unless your FortiGate Cloud portal address starts with us, eu or jp.
  3. Enter the API ID and API password from the credentials file.
  4. Choose Test connection. A successful test shows how many FortiGates FortiGate Cloud lists, and whether renewal dates will sync from Asset Management.
  5. Choose Save and continue. MSPortal saves the credentials in the vault and starts the first sync.

Match FortiGate Cloud groups to companies

Open Import or match companies. Each FortiGate Cloud sub-account is one row that covers all of its FortiGates. Each FortiGate in your primary account is its own row. The FortiGate Cloud group column shows Primary account or Sub-account with its ID, and FortiGates shows how many each row covers. For each row, accept the suggested company, choose another one, or use Import company to create a company from it. Accept strong matches accepts every suggestion at 90% confidence or more after you review them. Ignore hides a row that is not a client’s, and you can restore it later. FortiGates appear in Devices only for matched rows.

Import devices

Open Import devices. The FortiGates and devices page shows the last sync: Choose a device type for each FortiGate family. Every sync links each FortiGate to the device another source already reports, by serial number or name, and adds a new device when none matches. Choose Sync All Data to sync now.

Where the data appears

  • Device details: open a FortiGate in Devices. The Fortinet section shows the serial number, model, FortiOS firmware with a Current, Update available or End of life badge, Latest in branch, Branch end of life, FortiGate Cloud management, the FortiGate Cloud group, FortiGate Cloud subscription ends, Registered, Model end of support, and FortiCare and FortiGuard coverage with each line’s end date.
  • Security › Dashboard: the FortiGates connected and FortiGates behind on firmware tiles, and the Fortinet firewalls card with connection, firmware, renewals due in 90 days, the coverage ending soonest and issues by company. See Read the Security Dashboard.
  • Reports: add the Fortinet Firewall Health block. It shows connection status, FortiOS firmware status and the coverage ending soonest. It reflects the latest sync, not the report period.
  • AI reports: security reports include FortiGates that are disconnected, behind on firmware or have coverage ending.
  • MCP: use list_fortinet_firewalls to list a client’s FortiGates and those with a problem.

Sync and troubleshooting

Fortinet syncs daily. Saving the connection starts a sync, and Sync All Data on Import devices starts one at any time.
  • FortiCloud rejected this API user: check the API ID and password from the credentials file, and that the user has the FortiGate Cloud portal. FortiCloud locks an account after repeated failed sign-ins, so check the values before you test again. If you downloaded the credentials file again, use the new password.
  • FortiCloud is limiting requests for this API user: wait a few minutes and test again.
  • FortiGate Cloud did not answer in this region: choose the region your FortiGate Cloud portal runs in.
  • Renewal dates are off: the API user has no Asset Management access. Add the Asset Management portal to the user in FortiCloud IAM, then test the connection again.
  • A FortiGate is missing from Devices: match its sub-account or primary-account row to a company, then sync.
To remove the connection, open More actions on the connection page and choose Disconnect…. This removes the stored credentials, the matches and the data synced from Fortinet. It changes nothing in FortiCloud; delete the API user there when you no longer need it.
